E-The Environmental Magazine is reporting on a study conducted by the Silent Spring Institute that covered 213 products in 50 product categories, focusing primarily on personal-care products like lotion, hair products, toothpaste, shampoo; cleaners like laundry detergent and glass cleaner; as well as other everyday items from diapers to shower curtains to cat litter.
The study reveals that a wide range of consumer products contain chemicals known to disrupt hormones and/or trigger asthma. They also looked at so called “alternative products”, labeled natural, green, or non – toxic. A children’s sunscreen had the highest number of
disruptive chemicals.
Part of the problem is that many of the chemicals under concern are often “not listed on labels or in online rating systems, which are based on product label.”
