Artworks has been offering art classes for home-schooled children that have proven very popular. Therefore, for a third time there will be a ten-week series on Tuesdays, running April 3 through June 5. There will be two sessions: one for ages 9-12 given 1pm – 2pm and the other for ages 6-8, 2pm-3pm. There is a maximum of ten students per class.
The instructor, Angela Ranzoni, will focus this time on color theory such as mixing colors and color relationships. She will also continue assisting with the development of drawing skills and the basic concepts of art. Classes provide a wonderful social component in that students show and tell about the work that they have done during the week and have the opportunity to collaborate on some projects. Angela loves working with these children. She says they “are sponges for art education; they are amazing. ”
Originally from Western Massachusetts, Angela studied painting at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. She moved to San Francisco in 1991, where at New College of California, she completed a BA in Humanities with an emphasis on Expressive Arts Therapy. Since moving to Chestertown in 2006, she exhibits and volunteers at Artworks and the Chestertown Arts League. As part of “Artworks for Children”, she also teaches at Garnett Elementary School through the Judy Center and at Millington Elementary where there is an extended day art club.
Students meet at the Chester River Friends Meeting House, 124 Philosopher’s Terrace in Chestertown. The fee for the 10-week series is $75 for the first child in the family and $50 for each sibling.
There will be a show of works by these students at the library for the month of April. The show will open on First Friday, April 6.
If you are interested in registering a child for this series or would like to request a series on a different day of the week, contact Artworks at 410-778-6300 or email [email protected].
