Singing in the shower or while cleaning the house is one way to show vocal talents, but for many a more structured approach is wanted. New this spring, Soprano Georgiann Gibson comes tot the Queen Anne’s County Arts Council’s Centre for the arts with sessions
created to hone vocal skills at all levels.
By providing one-on-one, four week, half hour lessons serious students can advance to their desired singing level and aspiring singers will gain valuable skills. All will learn techniques for strong vocal development. Emphasis is on correct diaphragmatic breathing and support, proper tone production, diction and musical interpretation and presentation. Lessons are individualized according to age and experience and are open to those ages 14 and older.
Lessons days and times are Mondays from 3 to 7 pm or Thursdays from 12 to 5 pm. The first session begins on Monday, March 12 or Thursday, March 14. Cost is $140 for Arts Council members and $155 for non-members. Lesson times are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration deadline is March 5. Lessons are held at the Centre for the Arts at 206 Commerce Street in Centreville.
Gibson is originally from Pittsburgh and was soloist for the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, a European folk ensemble. As a member of the group, she traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States, performing 120 shows a year. While in Pittsburgh, she was also a member of the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus and the Mendelssohn Choir, singing under the baton of Lorin Maazel and André Previn. She was a winner in the Pittsburgh Concert Society’s Annual Competition, has performed in numerous recitals, and as a soloist for many churches.
Since moving to the Eastern Shore, Gibson has performed with the Annapolis Opera in La Traviata, and appears as a frequent soloist at the United States Naval Academy. She recently performed with the Easton Choral Arts Society and is a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists.
Centre for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests and develop new skills. Office hours at 206 South Commerce Street are Tuesday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
