Here are a few suggestions for those of you, host or guest, with neither the time nor inclination to cook all those side dishes:
The Imperial Hotel is once again offering sides for the upcoming holiday feast, (see below). You’ll need to order in advance, (by the 21st), and pick up on the 24th.
The Saturday morning Chestertown Farmers’ Market offers everything from apple cider, peach butter and apples,(Lockbriar Farms), to honey, (Lisa Redman), cheese, (Eve’s Cheese), sticky buns & freshly baked pies,(Lapp Family), breads, scones, cookies, (Against the Grain and Highfield Bread). You can pick up some greenery there as well. And who would turn down a gift of bacon and eggs from Cedar Run Farm? Market manager Owen McCoy assures us vendors will be there Christmas Eve day. (Did you know he has suckling pigs for sale? You need to pre order, but maybe for Super Bowl Sunday….Easter…)
Cooks- if you can’t make it to the Farmers’ Market, Chestertown Natural Foods carries local produce, as does Otwell’s Market in Galena. Otwell’s also offers freshly butchered meats and organic turkeys all year long, and are offering fresh baked pies for the holidays – can’t get much more local than a pie made with Lockbriar apples.
As for the turkey, (or ham or rib roast or…), you’re on your own. Perhaps if you have enough sides, no one will miss the bird.
