If Aberdeen is saying that the test noise “may be heard,” you can be sure it will be. I am on a first name basis with the noise control office and the PR office, staffed by very sympathetic pleasant people. Unfortunately they can do nothing. Nor can our county commissioners to whom I appealed when we first began to suffer damage to our home (cracks in the walls, etc.). Mr. Pickrum replied that the noise was within “permissible limits.” I submitted a damage report to Aberdeen and asked for repairs to be made. A full 10 months later someone from Washington sent me a letter saying that they had no record of the specific noises, vibrations, tremors I claimed caused some of the damage. Since then the damage has accelerated, and I am considering filing another claim. It does seem, though, that we are making little burps against their big thunder.

If you have active cracking in your walls or foundation you should get a structural engineer out to do an assessment.

“may be heard outside the installation boundaries”?
There are days I feel my organs rattle in my ribcage…
Lovely gov-speak understatement

I used to work in radio in Havre de Grace and the booms could be heard in our soundproofed studios.

Steve, Thanks. Any ideas where to find a qualified structural engineer? Not exactly something to find in our Yellow Pages. Other neighbors have spoken about damage to their houses as well, but so far no one has done anything. Yes I will make a second try, and I hope anyone reading this will as well. Once again the Eastern Shore is the neglected orphan. “Within allowable limits” Ha!
