The photography of local Kent County artist, Richard Hall, will be featured at Salon, 400 S. Cross Street, Chestertown in May and June with an opening reception on First Friday, May 6, 5-7pm. The show will emphasize his more recent work shot mainly on the upper
shore. Subjects will include landscape and water views, architectural details, compositions with animal subjects and somewhat abstract altered colorings of flora and the works of man. Hall’s show is hosted by Melissa Bones, owner and stylist at Salon and she will celebrate the opening reception with martinis, makeup trials and product discounts. The artist will be available for questions and discussion on the arts and most anything else.
Hall has been an amateur photographer since the early 1970’s, first showing his work in the Fall of 2007 in Chestertown. Since then he has shown widely in galleries and other venues on the upper Eastern Shore. His work has most recently been seen at the Adkins Arboretum Juried Art Competition, the Juried Show of the Chestertown Arts League, Artworks and in a two-person show with Cindy Brittain at the Studio Gallery of CAL. Hall is hard-pressed to claim a unifying theme for his photography – he loves doors and windows, other architectural detail, interesting scenes in nature and amongst the works of man, dishabille in all its manifestations and many other subjects. A unifying theme for his work might be his desire to create well-composed images with interesting values in light and color and hopefully with a “story” or mood. Hall has also been an active volunteer and leader with the Chestertown Arts League and Chester River Artworks. He is currently president of the Arts League. In his previous life before retirement he was on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh in Electrical and Computer Engineering. For more information about the artist and his work contact Rich Hall at 410-928-5012 or rwhall@pitt.edu.
The show will run May 6 through June 28, 2011 with an opening reception on Friday from 5-7pm. Salon’s owner, Melissa Bones, has been a steady supporter of local artists hosting many in small one-person shows over the past two years including Emily Kalwaitis, Angela Ranzoni, et al.
