Open Mic at The Mainstay, March 30

March 22, 2011 by Bay Journal

Share

The Open Mic that started at Andy’s in Chestertown and moved to the Prince has moved to various locations while the Prince is undergoing renovations. On Wednesday March 30th, it comes to the Mainstay in Rock Hall at 7:30 pm. The evening is free. Refreshments will be available from the Mainstay bar. Listeners are welcome. Musicians wanting to play should email Ford Schumann (fordo1@aol.com). For more information visit the Mainstay’s website

The format for the evening is three songs or 15 minutes of music per slot, which ever happens first. Spoken word pieces, such as poems or comedy and short acts such as juggling and magic are welcome but are limited to 5 minutes. It all starts at 7:30 PM and ends around 10, after which there is a jam for about an hour. If you want to play or perform, email Ford Schumann (fordo1@aol.com). Let him know your dream time slot and he’ll try to get you close to it. If he’s off by more than 45 minutes, he’ll let you know, but be sure to get here early to listen, support the other players and to make sure that you’ll be ready if the slot happens 45 minutes earlier than you requested. Five mics
or so are set up and instruments can be plugged into a direct line to the board. In order to keep the transition time to a minimum, if you have a complicated band, either try to make it simple (two drums instead of five), or arrive before 7:30 to set up part of your stuff and plan to take it down a bit at a time while the other people are getting on and off the stage.
Listeners are very welcome.

The Mainstay (Home of Musical Magic) is the friendly informal storefront performing arts center on Rock Hall’s old time Main Street. It is a 501(c)(3), non profit dedicated to the arts, serving Rock Hall and the surrounding region and dedicated to presenting local, regional and national level talent, at a reasonable price, in an almost perfect acoustic setting. Wine, beer, sodas and snacks are available at the bar. The Mainstay is supported by ticket sales, fundraising including donations from friends and audience members and an operating grant from the Maryland State Arts Council. For
more information visit the Mainstay’s website.

Upcoming Mainstay performances include:
April 2 Dick Morgan Quartet
April 7 Craobh Rua
April 9 Chester River Runoff
April 16 Sue Matthews: the music of Johnny Mercer
April 17 Ann Hennessy Poet’s Society
