Buzz this Week: Local Tomatoes in March?

March 22, 2011 by Gunston School

Pansies galore, luscious cupcakes, fresh eggs, and even local tomatoes were all available at the season opening of the Chestertown Farmers’ Market this past Saturday. Seemed like half of the town was out and about, enjoying the glorious weather and return of the Saturday morning social scene. Market manager Owen McCoy commented that as long as mother nature cooperates, more produce vendors will be at the market in weeks to come. Asparagus, anyone?

We were delighted with the open house for the Colchester Farm CSA last saturday.  Over 100 people took part in celebrating the beginning of the growing season.  The Spy was able to grab a few photos for the Buzz:

Speaking of openings, The Chester River Outfitters have moved to a gorgeous new location on Cross Street. Check out their spring sale – terrific deals on bikes, kayaks & gear. Time to get your bike tuned up.

And speaking of gorgeous renovations, just two doors away from them, the Kent News/Kent Printing building on the corner of Cross and Cannon is now ready for occupation as well. Nancy McGuire and Maryland Heritage Properties were spied moving their offices into the first floor space.
