Dog is man’s best friend. In this case, dog is also a mini-mart, a gas station, a sporting goods store, a restaurant, and a farming equipment and supplies dealership. Molly’s, just past Kennedyville on 213, finds its namesake in co-owner Scott Mason’s beloved 13-year-old black lab Molly, who passed on last July.
Formerly Vonnies, the sign now reads Molly’s Mart, but it’s more like Molly’s complex. Aside from Molly’s Mart, gas station and convenience store, there’s also Molly’s Place, a sporting goods store, Molly Mason’s, a restaurant, and the farm equipment dealership, currently called Chesapeake Diesel, but it may yet inherit the name.
For Scott Mason it’s somewhat of a consolidation. He’s relocating the farming dealership Chesapeake Diesel from Mary Morris Road, as well as his sporting goods store in Galena to the new property. “We didn’t have any exposure where we were located with Chesapeake Diesel,” said Mason. As for the sporting goods store, “the size was restrictive to us so we needed a bigger space,” he said. With the gas station that had been there, “we said we might as well put the mini mart in play also, same with the restaurant,” Mason said of his and co-owner Rita Thomas’ thought process.
The sporting goods store, Molly’s Place, will offer the regular sporting goods as well as fishing and hunting supplies and is slated to open August 16. Molly Mason’s, the restaurant, when finished will seat 62. Mason is hoping to offer a family-oriented eatery with a wide spectrum of food, “from hot dogs to Ruth Chris steaks,” he said. It’s slated to open September 14.
On July 14, the one year anniversary of Molly’s passing – and Mason’s birthday – Mason and Thomas opened the mini-mart for three hours in the loyal companion’s honor. For Mason, “It’s all about Molly, all about my dog, my best friend,”

I stopped by there about the 16th and it is a very good looking construction. Can’t wait for the resturant to try out the food.
Best of luck in this venture, Rita and Scott.

Place is nice, one stop shop! I can buy gas and get gas all in one shot… he he all joking aside. The sporting goods is a little over priced even for quality. No worries here cabela’s. The Market is great has great prices except for gas (lil high but expected since its located just left of the middle of no where) but covers just about all my “on the go” needs. Duck boats and fisherman welcome and pleased and even beer for Ma. The hardware store is hidden from the main road unless if you live in the middle of no where ya prolly wont see it. Thank God for the restaurant! This area needed a good place to eat for some time now. The Kitchen is open and in plain veiw. man do these guys hustle. one of my favorite dishes on the menu is the Pork chops served in a white sauce with mushrooms and onions. mmmmmm good Like you died and gone to heaven. served with Horseradish mashed potatoes for a perfect match. the staff is nice and very welcoming which matches the atmosphere. Seafood buffet on wed. nites is my wifes favorite and has a wide selection of new and tasty offerings and changes all the time. If ya get a chance to drive by make sure you bring the kids and your appetites. Oh and Dogs are welcome too. Molly wouldn’t have it any other way. Unfortunately i cant tell if their open half the time because the parking lot is empty for the most part I guess everyone car pools but pull your car up front and grab a bite you wont be sorry!
