The Mayor and Council of Chestertown announced today that G. Adrian Baker has been appointed Chief of Police for the Town of Chestertown, and will begin his service on May 1, 2012. The Mayor and Council of Chestertown selected Chief Baker as the top candidate out of nineteen (19) applications received for the position.
Chief Baker currently serves as Commander/Captain of the Central Region with the Maryland Resources Police. The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) is the enforcement arm of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). In addition to full service policing, NRP enforcement includes boating, conservation, homeland security, and search and rescue.
Prior to his present NRP assignment Baker was assigned as Commander of Southern Region, Homeland Security, Safety Education and as Area Commander of Natural Resources Police Upper Eastern Shore Region. Chief Baker has served as agency representative to the MD State Police Narcotics Task Force for Kent, Queen Anne, Talbot, and Caroline Counties. He currently represents his agency on the State Emergency Operation Center managing major statewide emergencies.
Chief Baker brings excellent leadership skills, currently overseeing an approximate force of forty (40) men and women in the Department of Natural Resources Police. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in Mass Communications. In 2009 he graduated from the Police Executive Leadership program, receiving a Master of Science degree in Management from Johns Hopkins University.
Baker has a lifelong connection to the eastern shore with very fond memories of his grandparent’s farm in Hillsboro, Maryland. After a two year assignment to Tilghman Island in 1984, Baker requested a transfer to Kent County. He and his wife, Kristin, have lived near Chestertown ever since with their two daughters, Grace and Madelyn.
The Mayor and Council will formally introduce and welcome Chief Baker to the public at the upcoming Town Council meeting of March 5, 2012.
