The next WC-ALL Learn at Lunch presentation takes place on Friday, November 11, 2016. Titled “Augmented Reality,” this lecture will explore the development of the new National Geographic TV series, The Great Human Race. Speaker Bill Schindler, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Washington College, approaches teaching by uniquely combining archaeology, primitive skills and experimental research. Often referred to as an experimental archaeologist, Schindler’s own personal story reflects his deep interest in understanding firsthand how primitive humans survived throughout our history.
During this presentation, Professor Schindler will discuss transforming TV into a unique teaching and learning opportunity by merging a TV reality show with the most up-to-date interpretations of human evolution and technological innovation. Sure to be a fascinating presentation, Professor Schindler will highlight the goals, obstacles and triumphs he and others faced trying to accurately present our shared ancestral past while attempting to preserve the entertainment value necessary to entice and keep a TV audience.
