The Kent County School District Parent’s Group has launched an initiative called “Support our Schools.” It is a grassroots advocacy effort devoted to increasing awareness of and support for the needs, challenges and untapped potential of our public school system. This parent-led group has several key objectives including prioritizing education in the county comprehensive plan, raising awareness of the effects of schools on economic development, restoring the school district fund balance and increasing the annual school budget.
To kick off this initiative, members of the group will have a table with information in front of Massoni Gallery at 203 High Street, Chestertown from 5 to 7p.m. on First Friday. Come hear more about the actions the group is taking to further its mission and draw attention to the needs of Kent County Public Schools. In addition, the group will have representatives at the Chestertown Farmer’s Market on Saturday, October 8. They are seeking signatures for a petition asking Kent County’s commissioners to increase funding to the schools and return control of education in Kent County to the professional educators and elected school board.
