Take an in-depth tour of lush Hawaiian gardens on Thursday, October 6 when the Chestertown Environmental Committee presents “Olomana Gardens Permaculture and Aquaponics,” 6:30 pm at Sumner Hall, 206 South Queen St., Chestertown.
This certified organic demonstration farm on Oahu is an ecologists’ dream. Farm owners Glenn and Liz Martinez’s combination of permaculture, a living system that creates no waste, and aquaponics – aquaculture and hydroponics, has the potential of supplying vast numbers of people with a sustainable supply of protein and vegetables. This 60 minute documentary is intriguing and educational, with plenty of tips for environmentally minded home gardeners.
The Homesteading Series lectures, demonstrations and films are free and open to the public. Upcoming events include Wild Homebrewing, October 12, 6:30 pm at Figg’s Ordinary, 207 South Cross Street, and Composting 101, October 17, 6:30 pm at Litrenta Hall, Washington College.
