Dr. Sebastian Gorka, internationally recognized authority on issues of national security, terrorism and strategy, will speak at Washington College on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 7:00 PM. The public lecture will be held in the Decker Theater in the Gibson Center for the Arts. Dr. Gorka’s presentation, Why ISIS is More Dangerous than Al Qaeda,will explore the rise of the Islamic State on the world stage. His presentation will address what this means for America and what should be done in response to this universal threat.
Dr. Gorka is the Major General Matthew C. Horner Distinguished Chair of Military Theory at the Marine Corps University. He is also an instructor for USSOCOM, the FBI, and the JFK Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg. He has briefed the National Intelligence Council, the CIA, and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence amongother national agencies. Dr. Gorka is a founding member of the Council for Emerging National Security Affairs and a recipient of the Joint Civilian Service Commendation, U.S. Special Operations Command. Formerly a reserve member of the British Army’s Intelligence and Security Group, he is now a U.S. citizen.
The event is co-sponsored by the Washington College Academy of Lifelong Learning and the Goldstein Program in Public Affairs. The lecture is open to the public free of charge. Dr. Gorka’s new book, Defeating Jihad: The Winnable War, will be available for signing during the reception that follows the lecture.
