Washington College’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (WC-ALL) has been offering stimulating courses to the community for over 20 years and has just announced its schedule of fall courses. Typically 350 people join the organization each year and register for as many classes as they wish. (What a bargain!) The fall semester which begins soon is divided into two sessions of six weeks each, with session one starting on September 6 and the second session on October 23. With a few exceptions, classes are held on campus in the afternoon from 4:15 to 5:30.
Twenty-seven different classes are offered, a real smorgasbord of interesting subjects to choose from. The fall elections have inspired two courses: The Will of the People during which students will explore some of the treasured documents from American history and Important and Interesting Presidential Elections 1800 to 1960. The Magic of the Opera concludes with a visit to a performance in Philadelphia after several weeks of studying Puccini’s “Turandot.” And then there is Astrophysics of Stars and several fine arts classes featuring literature, theater and women artists. Film series have always been popular with WC-ALL members – this fall will offer Introduction to Latin American Film and Films of Alfred Hitchcock as well as Exploring Ethics in Star Trek. Gun Control and the 2nd Amendment will stir up some lively discussions as will Supreme Court: Top Hits of the 2015 Term. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to spend time in a submarine, sign up for Life Beneath the Waves: True Tales of the Submarine Service. All About Apple will help you catch up with some of the new iPhone and iPad technology. And the list goes on. . .
For more details, come to Showcase, on Monday, August 15, at 4:00 pm in Hotchkiss Recital Hall on campus – a perfect opportunity to learn about all the fall classes with presentations by WC-ALL faculty members. Registration is now open and community members may register by web (preferred) or regular mail or in person at Showcase. Full catalog and registration information are available at www.washcoll.edu/offices/wc-all. For further information you may contact the WC-ALL office (410-778-7221).
