The Obsoleets who describe themselves as “an American roots string band and show orchestra,” bring their “old-timey uke-rock” to The Mainstay in Rock Hall, Maryland on Saturday August 13 at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $15. For information and reservations call 410-639-9133. Information is also available at the Mainstay’s website https://www.mainstayrockhall.org.
With a catalog reaching across three centuries, The Obsoleets have performed throughout the region since 2010, re-interpreting or just inventing material that showcases a wide range of acoustic instruments and a penchant for finding the heart of an individual song and a fondness for roots and blues.
For this concert during Rock Hall Pirates and Wenches weekend, they’ll combine vocals and a wide variety of instruments including guitar, banjo, mandolin, tenor guitar, ukulele, tiple, percussion, bass, accordion and what have you with unusual but entertaining arrangements of American roots classics.
The Obsoleets have opened for Chris Thomas King of “Oh, Brother Where Art Thou” fame at the Kennett Flash in Kennett Square, PA and played the Media Blues Stroll, The Rose Tree Summer Series and both The Mainstay and Rock Hall FallFest.
The group delights in finding good old, nearly forgotten songs into which they can breathe new life and find contemporary meaning with new arrangements and unusual instrumentation. In an always entertaining way, they clear out the cobwebs on some choice old tunes.
The Mainstay (Home of Musical Magic) is the friendly informal storefront performing arts center on Rock Hall’s old time Main Street.
