In response to concerns that Chestertown’s downtown lacks dependable connectivity for both the internet and regular cell service, the Town Council approved on Monday night the creation of a study group to develop a plan to correct the situation.
Chaired by Ward 3’s Sam Shoge, the task group will review options to increase internet access points, improve cell coverage, and encourage retail and business owners to partner with Chestertown to expand existing networks.

Hopefully the Task Force will be productive. The problem has been long a thorn in the side of economic progress in Chestertown.
The looks of the faces of most members of the city council , and town staff, said volumes about lack of knowledge of connectivity and
use of technology. It appears that Councilman Shoge understands the importance of this long festering problem. He is correct about existing locally.
A task Force approach makes eminent business sense, as long as it acts quickly, producing positive recommendations which will be actually
implemented. This issue is indeed an economic development issue which is paramount for any viable
and productive community today. As Larry the Cable Guy would say, “Git er done”!
Kudos to the Spy for the valuable editorial input.
