While the perspective of Christianity on an issue like race in America is always a welcomed one, Dr. David McAllister-Wilson, president of Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., brings a remarkably timely one since one of Wesley’s alumni was pastor and South Carolina state Senator Clementa Pinckney, who was senselessly shot down with eight others in the Charleston church in June of 2015. But more than an alum, Clementa Pinckney was a friend of David McAllister-Wilson.
As the world knows, the victims’ families publicly forgave the murderer within hours of this horrific crime, which has become the symbol of the power of faith love in communities across America.
And this was David’s message in his keynote address at Chesapeake College for its annual Black History Month Luncheon earlier this month. The Spy spent a few minutes with him before the celebration began.
