Rarely is there something in Chestertown more exciting than a new building going up. While most of the time these new structures are more likely to be seen on Washington College’s campus or toward the northern part of town, but when it happens in downtown, it becomes a special moment in town history.
And this is particularly the case with the almost completed Sultana Education Foundation Bay Studies Center on Cross Street. Cleverly designed by architect Alex Castro to allow the maximum teaching space with the maximum of natural light, the Bay Studies Center will be a remarkable addition to downtown landscape.
Last week Sultana’s president, Drew McMullen, gave the Spy a preview of the building. Drew has also started to schedule regular “hard hat” tours of the facility every Thursday from 11am-12pm when visitors will have the opportunity to see the ongoing work, ask questions of the builders, and experience the vision of the new space as it happens.
Space is limited to 12 people per tour so reservations are required. The link below will take you directly to EventBrite where you can book your tour. See more here.
