There has been a last minute change in the open program for the Chestertown Garden Club on Tuesday, Feb 2nd. Rosann Ferraro of the Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research Organization located in Newark, DE, will present a program at Emmanuel Episcopal Church at 11AM.
Over the past four decades, tens of thousands of birds have been saved through the efforts of the Wild Bird Clinic and Oil Spill Response Team. Ms. Ferraro will describe their state-of-the-art building, just opened one year ago, their oil spill response protocols and treatments, and the effects of oil on birds. In addition, their wild bird clinic admissions caseload will be reviewed.
Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research has been responding to wildlife involved in oil spills since 1976. Their trained, dedicated staff is on call 24-hours-a-day to respond to wildlife contaminated by oil spills anywhere in the world and it is one of only two organizations in the country that can professionally manage a response to a major spill. Rehabilitation of oiled wildlife is a complex, crisis-oriented endeavor. Tri-State takes a teamwork approach to oil spill training and response, stressing the need for regulatory agencies, responsible parties, state and federal wildlife professionals, colleagues in wildlife care, and concerned citizens to work together both in preparations for and response to oil spills.
Ms Ferraro will also describe how to help wild birds in our community; what to do and how to get assistance if you find an injured native wild bird in need of help.
Chestertown Garden Club will be pleased to welcome community members to the program tomorrow, Tuesday, at 11AM. Emmanuel Church is located at 101 No. Cross Street, Chestertown, MD.
