The Chestertown Town Council continued to debate the pros and cons of allowing food trucks in historic downtown during their last meeting on Tuesday night. The council is considering ordinance changes that under certain circumstances would allow the trucks to locate on public property during the week.
Paul Hanley, the owner of Blue Heron Cafe, made public comments showing concern over the potential unintended consequences of such a change in policy and asked the Council for more time to consider alternatives. Kevin Miller, the operator of the Papa Smurf’s BBQ food truck, made the counter argument that access to a downtown location would be one of the few ways his new business can survive.
Mayor Cerino moved to have a vote on March 21st on an ordinance change and asked that the Town’s current drafts (attached below) be shared with the public in preparation of that discussion.
DOC169 – Food Truck Option One
DOC168 – Food Truck Option Two
Ed Plaisance says
Sounds like a great idea…I don’t see any substantial difference between the two options.
It would be great to see a bunch of ethnic type food trucks around the cannon park on Saturdays during farmer’s market time. I think the trucks and the market would mutually benefit each other.
One of the really neat things on the Mall in DC is the great selection of food trucks.
Billie Beck says
I think the Food Trucks are a good idea and I also think they’d benefit the Farmer’s Market on Saturday too. I believe they’d bring more folks to spend more time downtown as well as at the Market. I didn’t see a whole lot of difference between the two options either.
David Caverlee says
I live outside of Chestertown but would definitely come into town for some good food. I think the idea is great. And Chestertown does not have any ethnic choices. I vote YES!
