The multi-talented blues aficionado Damon Fowler will perform Friday, November 13 as part of the Blues at the Garfield series. Fowler opened the 2014 series, and so impressed the audience with his combination of guitar virtuosity, vocals and showmanship, that he and his trio were a natural to return.
Fowler’s music, deemed “swamp blues,” has its roots in the rich traditional sounds of the American south: classic country, soul, sacred steel, the hot jazz and funk of New Orleans, and rock. Not content with mastering the slide guitar, Dobro, lap steel and electric guitar, Fowler has spent a considerable amount of time honing both his vocal and songwriting chops, resulting in critics extolling his originality and maturity as well as his technical guitar expertise.
He has released six albums: the most recent, Sounds of Home, 2014, Blind Pig Records, was produced and recorded by swamp blues master Tab Benoit, who also performs on the record. In addition to touring solo and with his own trio, Fowler plays with the blues super group, Southern Hospitality (SoHo), whose record, Easy Livin’, is also out on the Blind Pig label.
Tickets to the November 13th show are $30, $20 for students with ID, and are available on line, www.GarfieldCenter.org, or by calling the box office at 410 810 2060.
