Kent Chamber Music opens its 27th season of concerts on Saturday, October 17, at 7pm with a performance by District5 Wind Quintet. The concert will be held in Hotchkiss Recital Hall, Gibson Center for the Arts, at Washington College in Chestertown.
New to the concert series, District5 specializes in new works and original transcriptions. The quintet creates immersive and dramatic shows that depart from the standard concert format. It combines innovation with musical integrity for imaginative interpretations that heighten the audience’s emotional connection to the music. This emerging wind quintet continues to produce one-of-a-kind performances.
Recently, District5 has collaborated with The Barns at Wolf Trap, the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet, and the LeDroit Chamber Players. The quintet has been presented by multiple concert series including Capital Fringe: Music in the Library, the Washington Arts Club, NextNOW Fest, Common Tone, and the Riversdale Mansion Chamber Music Society. It was a finalist in the Savvy Musician In ACTION Chamber Competition in June 2015 and was previously a Fellowship ensemble at the University of Maryland from 2013-2015.
Musicians in the group include Nina Elhassan, clarinet; Eddie Rumzis, bassoon; Laura Kaufman, flute; Alison Lowell, oboe; and Laura Brisson, horn. The quintet will be performing works by Busoni, Hindemith, Liszt, Beethoven and Mozart.
Tickets for the concert may be purchased at the door for $15.
