The multi-talented Deanna Bogart returns to the Eastern Shore on Friday, October 9 with her band to perform at the Garfield Center for the Arts in Chestertown. The show begins at 8 pm, and is the fifth of six concerts in the second annual Blues at the Garfield series.
The former Maryland-based singer, songwriter, pianist and sax player calls her signature blend of boogie woogie, blues, R&B, and more than a hint of country swing and jazz, “blusion.” After a musical start in a Western swing band, and a stint of R&B with Root Boy Slim, she formed her own group, and has been honing her chops and engaging audiences ever since. Along the way she has garnered 23 Wammies and three Blues Music Awards’ Horn Instrumentalist of the Year. She is also an avid educator and mentor to budding musicians.
Although Bogart currently resides on the West Coast, she returns to tour the East fairly often. Her latest release, on Blind Pig records, Just a Wish Away, features her “blusion” originals plus outstanding versions of “Bye, Bye, Blackbird”, and, “Hot Fun in the Summertime.” Let’s hope she plays that even though we have slipped into fall.
Tickets should be purchased early; they are $30, students with ID $20. The series wraps up the year with blues guitar virtuoso Damon Fowler and his trio performing on Friday, November 13.
