Galena businesses have suffered this last several weeks while the Sassafras River Bridge on Maryland 213 is closed for repair. While the absence of truck traffic being rerouted to US 301 has been welcomed, local shops depend on the additional business from auto through traffic stopping for passengers to shop, gas up, or browse the antique shops.
The town experienced a welcomed reprieve when a Conestoga tour bus stopped on Wednesday to give the passengers an ice cream treat at Scoop De Ville on Main Street. The Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Friendly Circle Club, filled the almost vacant downtown for a short while. When asked how the ice cream was, a spokesman said, “It was wonderful!” The seniors filed back on the bus to continue their excursion, and Galena returned to a ghost town.
