Just two weeks into fall, the first weekend of October features an abundance of riches in activities for visitors to Historic Chestertown! Gather your spouse, a group of friends, or your affinity group and drive on over! There is something for everyone this weekend in Chestertown.
Begin your weekend Friday afternoon, October 2nd at 4pm with History Happy Hour at the Bordley History Center. The Historical Society of Kent County presents Diane Daniels, author of Ghosts of Chestertown and Kent County, listen to spooky stores while enjoying wine and cheese.
Saturday, October 3rd the Historical Society of Kent County hosts the 45th Annual Historic House Tour. The Tour this year focuses on your favorite 18th century residences as well as inspirational uses of ‘newer’ historic properties. Some Tour homes like newly-renovated Smith-Ringgold House at 201 North Queen Street feature period furnishings and grand vistas of the Chester River; others like the Candy House at 103 North Queen, fantastic designs for today’s living in historic spaces. Also on tour this year is Houston House, not open to the public in 24 years; and the Geddes Piper House, now for sale and the last time on the tour as the headquarters of the Historical Society of Kent County
• The houses are open Saturday, October 3rd from 1pm to 5pm.
• Tour tickets are $25 in advance and can be reserved online at our website www.kentcountyhistory.org or purchased by phone at 410.778.3499.
• You may also purchase tour tickets the day of for $30.
• All tickets are available for pick up beginning at 11am at the Bordley History Center, located across from Fountain Park at 301 High Street.
We are featuring several special inclusive packages this year to round out your day. Each package includes your tour ticket, a copy of the out-of-print book Historic Houses of Kent County plus a choice of enhancements.
• Pastry Break Package $45 (a $110 value) adds a pastry and beverage break at Evergrain Bread Co. OR
• The Lunch Package $50 (a $115 value) includes a two-course lunch at the Lemon Leaf Café OR
• The Afternoon Tea on the Chester River Packet Boat $75 (a $130 value) takes you on a 1 ½ hour river cruise with tea service and cash bar.
