Tito Puente Jr., son of the groundbreaking Latin percussionist Tito Puente, and an acclaimed musician in his own right, will be the featured attraction at the Sultana Education Foundation’s 18th Annual Gala on September 19 in Chestertown. Backed by his ten piece orchestra, Puente will preform many of the compositions that earned his father world-wide acclaim and led him to be dubbed “The King of Latin Music.” A long-standing tradition on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the Sultana Education Foundation’s Annual Gala raises funds to support the Foundation’s award-winning programs in Environmental Science and American History that serve more than 12,000 K-12 students and teachers each year. This year’s gala will honor John E. Swain, builder of the schooner SULTANA, and raise funds to support the John E. Swain Classroom at the Sultana Education Foundation’s new Education Center. Co-hosted by Tony and Donna Neff, Sultana’s 2015 Gala will again take place at Clovelly Vineyards overlooking the Chester River. Tickets for the event are $125 (of which $100 is tax deductible) and include dinner, dancing, an open bar, and Latin dance demonstrations. Reserved tables for four, six, eight or ten guests are available. For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.sultanaeducation.org or call 410-778-5954
