This First Friday August 7, Movies under the Stars presents an all time favorite, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Produced by Steven Spielberg, directed by George Lucas and set in 1936, Harrison Ford’s now legendary Indiana Jones may be a meek college archeology professor by day, but he moonlights as the world’s greatest treasure hunter. In the first movie, (that would beget three sequels, and if rumors are true, a fourth), we find Jones hired by the U.S. Government to discover the Ark of the Covenant, before the Nazis can locate it and its supernatural powers. Filled with what would become some of the most iconic moments in cinema history, Raiders is consistently ranked among the greatest action-adventure films of all time and was included in the U.S. Library of Congress as having been deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
Washington College’s answer to Dr. Jones, John & Liz Seidel will be on hand at the Custom House before the show to display real archeological treasures from Chestertown’s past and talk about the science of studying our history through artifacts from 7:30 till showtime.
The rest of the summer movies will continue with Fantastic Mr. Fox on August 21; and just in time for back to school with Mr. Peabody & Sherman on Sept 4.
Shows start at dusk, (approximately 8:30) on the Custom House Lawn at the Foot of High Street at Water Street in Downtown Chestertown, and are free to the public.? Bring blankets and lawn chairs, (low seated are preferred). Rain dates will be the following Friday evenings.
