The Humane Society of Kent County will be awarded an $11,000 grant from the Edmund Lindemuth and Melvyn Schofield Endowment Fund of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation. Support provided by this grant will expand the lifesaving impact of HSKC’s new Medical Care and Adopt Me! Funds, improving the care provided to shelter pets.
Executive Director Jane Welsh remarked, “Our organization is honored to be selected by the Mid-Shore Community Foundation for this grant. Their support of our new Medical Care and Adopt Me! Funds will provide our shelter with substantial resources to improve the welfare of animals throughout Kent County.”
The Humane Society of Kent County’s new Medical Care Fund was established this year to save lives of homeless pets that enter the shelter in an emergency medical situation. It also supports the health and well-being of all shelter animals by providing routine and preventative medical care. The Adopt Me! Fund helps shelter pets find their forever families faster by supporting training and behavioral interventions, showcasing adoptable animals in new ways throughout the community, and providing resources to adopters, ensuring pets continue a positive relationship with their families. Both funds create an opportunity for donors and funders alike to improve the lives of homeless pets in Kent County.
The Edmund Lindemuth and Melvyn Schofield Fund was established in 2012. Edmund and Melvyn were partners for 23 years, and they resided in Kent County. Melvyn focused his charitable interests on improving the welfare of animals locally, and he passed away in 2001. Shortly before Edmund died in 2012, he established the fund through the Mid-Shore Community Foundation to benefit Kent County and the Mid-Shore region in perpetuity. This is the first time The Humane Society has been awarded a grant from this fund; its resulting impact will continue the legacy that Edmund and Melvyn intended.
The Humane Society of Kent County will receive the award at the Mid-Shore Community Foundation’s Annual Awards Luncheon held at Chesapeake College this November
