Chestertown Recreation Commission announces the return of Movies under the Stars on Friday June 26. Last summer the enormously popular program brought hundreds of neighbors together to enjoy Hollywood’s greatest hits on the banks of the Chester River and this summer will bring the magic back to the big outdoor screen.
The season begins with an all time favorite of kids and grown ups alike, ³The Princess Bride². Directed by Rob Reiner in 1987 the instant classic weaves tale of brave Westley and his quest to save Princess Buttercup from the clutches of the Evil Prince Humperdick. One of the most quotable and beloved films to come out of the decade the film stars Andre the Giant, Mandy Patinkin, Cary Elwes and Robin Wright Penn. As with all of our shows, costumes (princess and pirates) are encouraged.
The rest of the summer movies will continue with Night at the Museum 3 on July 10; Back to the Future on July 24; Raiders of the Lost Ark on August 7; Fantastic Mr Fox on August 21; and just in time for back to school with Mr. Peabody & Sherman on Sept 4.
Shows start at dusk, (approximately 8:30) on the Custom House Lawn at the Foot of High Street at Water Street in Downtown Chestertown, and are free to the public. Bring blankets and lawn chairs, (low seated are preferred). Rain dates will be the following Friday evenings.
Thanks to Washington College and Women in Need for their support of this program.
