Perhaps the first reaction for many when viewing the final stages of construction of Chesapeake College’s new health professions and athletic center would be along the lines of, “this is not your grandfather’s community college.”
With over 100,000 square feet of space, and housing over a dozen health and physical fitness academic and athletic disciplines, the new center is so large that it capable of housing all the existing classroom buildings under its roof.
Scheduled to open its doors this coming fall, the Spy received a sneak preview last week of the building and talked with Jon Longest, director of the school’s Center for Allied Health about the impact the new facility have on students and faculty, including the revolutionary new simulation models that allow emergency health technicians to train with real-time patients.
We also talked with building project manager Miriam Collins on keeping the construction progress on time, and more importantly, on budget. Not an easy task for a $30 million center.
This video is approximately four minutes in length. Simulation video segments were produced by Pittsburgh Technical Institute
