Karen Emerson, the Executive Director of the Historical Society of Kent County, will leave her position in early summer and return to her home state of New York, where her husband, William Kerbin, has accepted a senior position with the City of Oneonta. Emerson has managed the Society during an active period of growth that will include moving its Chestertown headquarters to the Bordley History Center and conducting a successful fundraising drive for its renovation.
Society President Robert Bryan said, “Karen has done a splendid job of managing a complex operation with limited resources. She will be extremely hard to replace and we wish her well.” Bryan also announced that the Society would immediately begin its search for a replacement.
Interested applicants should have both the ability to interpret Kent County’s history to a diverse public audience and to manage the Society’s finances, volunteers and programs. The Society currently runs the Geddes-Piper House Museum and the Bordley History Center, which contains a gift shop and hosts most public events. The Society also conducts a yearly walking tour in downtown Chestertown, co-sponsors the Legacy Day street party, publishes a historical journal, arranges First Friday speaker programs and runs an unparalleled library specializing in genealogy and local records. Interested applicants can learn more about the Society from its website: www.kentcountyhistory.org For more information about the position of Executive Director, send an email to [email protected] and tell us about yourself. The position will be filled as early as June 1, 2015.
