Poet and harpist Meredith Davies Hadaway and band Harp and Soul delighted a packed Hynson Lounge at Washington College Wednesday night with poetry threaded with Celtic rhapsodies.
Sponsored by the C.V. Starr Center as the first part of a two-part series celebrating life along the Chester River, Hadaway read from her new book, “At the Narrows,” after several melodies by Harp and Soul musicians Rebekah Hardy, Ben Bennington, Nevin Dawson and Bob Ortiz (with Hadaway on the Celtic harp of course).
“At the Narrows” is the poet’s third book exploring ecopoetry—how poetry translates and interacts with our environment—and has received wide acclaim, awards and grants for her work.
Here, she reads two poems, “Stink Bugs”, and “Bananas”, where she braids lightheartedness with reverence for the natural world.
Robert Garson says
A wonderful collection…but not to be confused with CROSSING THE NARROWS by yours truly…a collection published in 2009.
