Kent County Middle School became Health Central on Thursday as the Annual Community Health Fair opened it doors to offer health related information and health speakers.
The Fair was sponsored by Homeports, in cooperation with the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and hosted more than 60 exhibitors.
A spectrum of health related information kits were offered, along with mini-consultations on subjects ranging from diabetes and home care to identity theft and assisted living. Hand’s-on mini-clinics were offered by UM Shore Regional Health to measure mobility and balance and food samples were available from the new (upcoming) Redner’s Market, Chestertown Natural Food Store and Pamela’s Heavenly Treats.
Refreshments were provided by the Galena Lions Club and the Town of Chestertown.
Classrooms were set up for 10 “Ask the Experts” talks by local physicians who discussed topics like “Medicare 2015”, “Alzheimer’s Disease” and “Hypertension.”
Cindy Bach, Regional Director of Care Transitions at Shore Regional Health said, ” I think it was a great success for several reasons. First, the community came armed with questions and an informed community is a healthy community. I was also impressed with how the vendors communicated with each other, and from the Homeports perspective there was a sense of neighbors helping neighbors learn more about aging in place. This is what a good health fair should be like.”
Here are a few images from the morning.
