If you are looking for a reason to get out of the house and learn something new, RiverArts Spring classes are just what you need. We are offering a variety of returning favorites and new classes to choose from. Registrations are rolling and classes are starting to fill up so don’t wait.
This spring at RiverArts Clay Studio, there will be three classes. First up is Hand Building with Karen Douglas for six weeks beginning March 16th from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. In this class you will learn to develop your artistic style with clay. This class is appropriate for beginners or those wishing to continue prior studies. Marilee Schumann, a long-time RiverArts instructor will be teaching two pottery classes. “Beginners’ Pottery on the Wheel” will run from March 19 to May 7 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. It is for those wishing to learn the basic of throwing pottery. “The Potter’s Wheel” will run from March 17 through May 5 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. and is for intermediate to advanced students. Both classes will focus on pottery and throwing skills as well as developing personal artistic style.
There are still some spaces left in Brenda Foehrkolb’s “Baltimore Painted Screens” workshop on March 22 from 1:00 t0 5:00 p.m. In this one-day workshop, you will learn about the history of the iconic painted screens and have an opportunity to create your own. Participants may bring their own screens up to 20X30 inches, or they may purchase one from the instructor.
Beginning on March 24 through April 14 from 6:00 o 7:30 p.m., Anne Highfield will be returning to teach her very popular “Art of iPhoneography.” The class will focus on using iPhone and iPad apps to create works of photographic art. Highfield’s iPhone photography has been featured by iphoneography websites such as ‘The App Whisperer” and “Art of Mob” and has been displayed in exhibits as far away as Collingwood, Ontario.
A new class in this spring’s lineup is “Painting with Encaustics” taught by Lee Butera. Encaustic is the art of painting with wax. This class is appropriate for beginners and will cover the basic tools and techniques used in encaustics. The class will culminate in the creation of a piece created on a 12 X 12 birch panel suitable for framing.
By popular demand, RiverArts has added a wine and social event to our classes. Raven Bishop will be teaching “Visual Journaling and Vino” on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 from April 21 through May 12. This is your chance to carve out two hours of creative play in a social environment. Complimentary wine will be provided, while you learn to use a sketchbook as your personal creative playground.
Finally, there are still spaces available in David Kessler’s two-day “Loosen Up” abstract painting workshop. The workshop will be held on May 17 and 18. Have you ever wondered how to Loosen-Up your painting style? Paint with more Freedom? Be more Spontaneous? Be more Expressive? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then David’s Loosen-Up Abstract Painting Workshop is for you! He will teach you how to do each of these realizing there should also be a firm foundation of structure for your paintings using line, shape, value, color and texture.
