Undaunted by a fierce—and hopefully last—mini-blizzard, the town broke through its spell of cabin fever by turning out for March’s First Friday. From the reopened Poor Richard’s to Chester River Wine and Cheese Co’s grand opening, shops and and galleries were crammed with visitors hungry for entertainment and socializing.
Sidewalk luminaries signaled gala events and tasty hors d’oeuvres along High and Cross Streets as crowds walked carefully through snow and ice to explore each lighted door.
“I really wasn’t sure anyone would show up on a night like this,” said Alex Castro, Director at Sandbox Initiative. Sandbox was packed for an evening of musical virtuosity by Pam and Bob Ortiz.
If a freezing, ice-caked First Friday like this is any barometer of Fridays to come, Chestertown’s enthusiasm and pride of place is launching into new territory. Let’s make it happen.
