Mr. Sherwin Markman will present a sermon entitled “Seven Years at Sea: Some Life Lessons Learned ” for the Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River, 914 Gateway Dr., Chestertown. Sherwin and Peggy Markman followed the call of the sea! Sherwin left his D.C. career in the White House and as a private lawyer. Peggy left her career as a national officer and director of a women’s rights organization. They embarked on a seven-year adventure aboard their sailboat “Esprit.”
From 1992 to 1999, they sailed up and down the American East coast, and then to the Bahamas and Dominican Republic on their way to a circumnavigation of the Caribbean. After this (by themselves) they crossed the North Atlantic to Portugal, sailed through the Straits of Gibraltar, and thence to Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Cyprus.
In those years they learned much about solitude, coping with challenges, even terror. They gained a new understanding of the interdependence of all life where giving and receiving are one. Each day brought challenges and a greater love and respect for the vastness, power and spirituality of the sea with all its teeming life. Come to hear more of this nautical and spiritual adventure.
Music for the service will be provided by Pam and Bob Ortiz.
Childcare and children’s programs will be available. Please call for more information at 410-778-3440 or email [email protected].
Progam starts on Sunday, January 25 at 10 AM at the Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River, 914 Gateway Dr., Chestertown.
