Horizons of Kent and Queen Anne’s has named eight new members to its board of directors.
“These new board members represent a wealth of nonprofit experience as well as a passion for education and highlight our expansion into Queen Anne’s County,” says John Christie, president of the Horizons board. “We are delighted that they have joined us in our mission to provide academic and cultural enrichment to underprivileged children in Kent and Queen Anne’s counties.”
The board members are:
*Lee Franklin, retired Queen Anne’s County teacher and Queen Anne’s County volunteer
*Kate Goodall Gray, senior vice president of KRM Development
*John Lewis, Headmaster, The Gunston School in Centreville
*Nancy Nunn, education and outreach coordinator of the Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro Ecology
*Brenda Rose, principal, Rock Hall Elementary School
*Sam Shoge, assistant director of admissions at Washington College and Chestertown councilman
*Lloyd Taylor, principal Church Hill Elementary School
*Jim Wright, partner in Venable law firm in Baltimore
Horizons of Kent and Queen Anne’s is a nonprofit summer enrichment program that encourages students with limited financial means to realize their full potential. Offerings include targeted academic support in reading and math, Red Cross certified swim lessons, and enrichment in sports, theater, learning games and outdoor education. Horizons has served Kent County youth since 1995 and will begin serving Queen Anne’s County youth with a new program at The Gunston School next summer. The website is www.horizonskentqueenannes.org.
