Radcliffe Creek School is pleased to announce that it will be launching an
Occupational Therapy Program with the start of the 2013-2014 school year. The program is made possible by a grant from the Family and Community Partnerships of Kent County.
Occupational therapy plays a key component in educating children with learning differences, and the new program at Radcliffe Creek will focus on helping students manage and organize their daily activities to help foster learning.
Sensory integration will also be a major aspect of the occupational therapy program, which is proven to improve academic skills, motor development, and socio-emotional behaviors.
The grant has enabled the School to hire a part-time, licensed occupational therapist, Susan Barnett.
Barnett comes to Radcliffe Creek from Katherine Thomas School in Rockville, Maryland. She has her master’s in occupational therapy from Boston University and her previous work experience includes the Kennedy Institute, Ivymount School, and the Lab School in Washington, D.C.
In addition to hiring Barnett, the grant will also allow Radcliffe Creek to equip a dedicated occupational therapy classroom and train current teachers on how to incorporate occupational therapy and sensory integration techniques into their classrooms.
