Summer is just beginning, but several organizations in the north county area have planned events that can go on your calendar right now:
The North County Branch of the Kent County Public Library has activities for people of all ages, as well as great summer reading books. Check out the Kent County Public Library website or call 410-648-5380.
The Sassafest River Jam will be held Sunday, June 23 from noon until 5 pm at the Georgetown Yacht Basin. This is a fundraiser for the Sassafras River Association and will feature music, food, a wade-in, a dinghy poker run, a kayak race, and more. A variety of environmental exhibitors and local vendors will be there. Contact Sophie Foscue at 410-275-1400.
The Georgetown Harbor Fireworks and Boat Parade will be held on Thursday, July 4 beginning at 5 pm. Contact Ronda Bolinger at 410-275-1200.
On Saturday, July 13, the Crow Winery will have a barbecue from 6-9 pm at their farm, located at 12441 Vansant Corner Rd., Kennedyville, MD. Also at the Crow Winery, there will be a grilling cooking class on Saturday, July 27 from 4-6 pm. For information or tickets, call Judy Crow at 410-648-5687.
Saturday, July 13 will be Second Saturday in Galena, from 5-8 pm. The stores will stay open until 8 and have “cheer” for customers, and there will be a cruising car show as well as a number of children’s activities, Sisters by Chance and Scoop de Ville will offer a delicious barbecue for $8.50. On Saturday, July 20 from 9 am – 1 pm there will be a Savage Race Mud Run at Hopkins Farm – a “big, bad event!.” Call 410-708-0863 for more information.
The Taste of the Sassafras, where guests can sample fine food from local vendors, will be held at the tented pavilion at the Kitty Knight House on Friday, September 13. For tickets and information, call John Carroll at 410-708-0247.
Betterton Day will be bigger and better than ever on Saturday, August 3. For information call the Betterton Volunteer Fire Company at 410-348-5678.
Also on Saturday, August 3, Mount Harmon Plantation in Earleville (Cecil County) will have its Lotus Blossom Festival to celebrate the beautiful American Lotus that grows in the creeks surrounding Mount Harmon. For information, call Debbie Brown at 410-275-8819.
Millington Day is Saturday, August 17 beginning at 10 am. Proceeds from the parade, car show, 5K run and other events benefit the fire company and youth groups. Contact Jo Manning at 410-928-3880.
