The Kent County League of Women Voters wants to help area residents think critically about all the sales pitches aimed at them, especially now in a political season leading up to the November elections. The presentations will demonstrate faulty sales techniques identified by experts in communication.
The interactive program will give lively lessons on how to distinguish fact from dis-information, and include topics like:
· Use of glittering, but vague generalities –“the biggest in history,” “affordable housing.”
· Scare ‘em stiff! If it’s scary be wary. Fear sells.
· Use of weasel words and eye candy.
The League aims to tailor this presentation to the needs of the sponsoring groups. With elections due in November, Dianne Turpin, coordinator, invites those interested to contact the League soon so as to allow for scheduling for the fall.
