The Chester River Chorale welcomes new members as it begins rehearsals for the fall concert season on Thursday, September 8. The 80-voice chorus requires no audition for membership and offers a comfortable environment for singers of all levels of ability who
enjoy making music and developing their musical skills.
Rehearsals will be held Thursdays from 7 to 9:15 p.m. in Heron Point’s Wesley Hall in Chestertown. Registration for both new and returning members begins at 6 p.m. on September 8.
Following sell-out performances throughout the 2010–11 season, the CRC will begin preparations for a gala Holiday Concert highlighted by Washington National Opera Young Artist, baritone, Thomas Beard; Chestertown’s own Cantor Gary Schiff and various soloists from the Chorale. The program of traditional Christmas and Hanukkah music will also feature accompaniments by organ, piano, and a small chamber orchestra.
Now beginning its 13th year, the Chorale is in its second season under the leadership of Artistic Director Douglas D. Cox and Accompanist Sammy Marshall, both of whom served with the Soldiers’ Chorus of The United States Army Field Band.
The CRC offers scholarships for student singers who seek to develop their musicianship and while contributing to the community’s lively arts. Two levels of scholarships are available. For high school and college students, scholarships are available without audition to cover the membership fee of $40 per semester. Several $500 scholarships are available for qualified college students by audition. Interested students should contact CRC through its website contact page at www.chesterriverchorale.org/contact for more information.
For singers wishing to broaden their music making experience, the CRC also offers a small specialty ensemble, the Chester Chamber Singers. Auditions for this group will begin on September 12 and must arranged by appointment with Mr. Cox.
