The first pilot watershed of Showcase Watersheds, a new project launched by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, will be announced this Friday, June 18, at Chino Farms in Chestertown at 10 a.m.
This first Showcase Watershed project is the kickoff for an effort to instigate new conservation methods focused on reducing nutrient and sediment runoff in four million acres of agricultural lands in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed by 2025. These selected watersheds are seen as priority areas in the President’s Executive Order on the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.
All local residents are invited to this event, where USDA Under Secretary for Natural Resources and the Environment Harris Sherman and NRCS Maryland State Conservationist Jon Hall will be speaking.
