Steven J. Arnold, Church Hill Theatre Executive Producing Director, and Sylvia Maloney, chair of the CHT Education Committee, have announced that CHT will again award scholarships to two in-need youths for participation in their summer Green Room Gang youth theatre workshop. Church Hill Theatre’s endowment fund, held by the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, was created with an eye on education. The fund’s interest income provides CHT with opportunities to support students in need through its own educational programming and, in the future, other educational institutions’ programming as well.
Green Room Gang involves two theatre camps. Green Room Gang Senior is for ages 10 to 17 and begins June 16, 2010. Green Room Gang Junior is for ages 6 to 9 and begins June 28, 2010. The camps meet Mondays through Thursdays, the Senior troupe from 9 AM to 3 PM and the Junior troupe from 9 AM to Noon. Both camps produce and perform their own production during which the kids are immersed in many facets of theatre training by professional educators and their staff. The camp ends on the weekend of July 24 with three performances of the combined productions. Past productions have included “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” “Seussical Junior,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Go Fish” and “Bugs,” among others.
Two scholarships will be awarded for Green Room Gang – one each for participation in Green Room Gang Senior and Junior. Scholarship forms must be in to the CHT office before or by April 16, 2010 for scholarship consideration. CHT’s Education Committee will make award determinations based 85% on need, as demonstrated by a narrative and support materials provided by a parent or guardian, and 15% on a narrative from the child, in which kids are asked to describe why they want to participate in the camp and what they hope to get from the experience. The award status for both scholarships will be announced to all applicants by May 7, 2010.
CHT has already begun accepting Green Room Gang enrollment and scholarship applications for the 2010 summer camp from past participants. Because there is only a limited number of students who can attend the program, anyone interested in Green Room Gang who has not yet filled out an application should contact the Church Hill Theatre office immediately at 410-758-1331 to secure an application.
